Charles E. Young Library Department of Special Collections Service Fees

The following fees are charged for special collections services on a cost-recovery basis. Checks must be in U.S. currency and should be made payable to the University of California Regents; California residents must add 9.25% sales tax where noted.

UC Users

These fees apply to university-directed or non-profit research only. Services and materials for for-profit research will be charged at the non-UC rate.

Non-UC Users

Fees are to be paid in advance and are non-refundable.

Photocopying
UC Users
Black-and-white copies (letter or legal) 50¢ per page
Color copies $1 per page
Oversized copies $1.50 per page
Production fee Waived for the first fifty pages; $12 per hour thereafter
Research fee Waived for the first half-hour; $53 per hour thereafter
Non-UC Users
Black-and-white copies (letter or legal) $1 per page
Color copies $3 per page
Oversized copies $3 per page
Production fee (off-site requests) $16 per transaction
Research fee (off-site requests) $72 per hour
Photography
UC Users
Production fee Waived for the first five images; $12 per hour thereafter
Research fee Waived for the first half-hour; $53 per hour thereafter
Materials At cost, plus California sales tax
Non-UC Users
Production fee $31 per image
Research fee $72 per hour
Microfilming

Microfilming is outsourced to the Southern Regional Library Facility, which sets the basic charges; additional fees are listed below.

UC Users
Production fee Waived for the first half-hour; $12 per hour thereafter
Research fee Waived for the first five images; $53 per hour thereafter
Non-UC Users
Production fee $72 per hour
Research fee $45 per hour
Audio, Film, Videotape
UC Users
Production fee $11.50 per item
Research fee $53 per hour
Duplication fee: CD, cassette tape $23 per item
Duplication fee: film, videotape, audiotape Determined by vendor
Materials At cost, plus California sales tax
Non-UC Users
Production fee $16 per item
Research fee $72 per hour

Digital Images

Some jobs must be outsourced to the Southern Regional Library Facility, which sets its own prices; additional charges are noted below.

Per-page charge $2 per scan, plus production and research fees
Production fee: original scan Waived for the first ten images; $12 per hour thereafter
Production fee: duplicate scan Waived for the first ten images; $12 per hour thereafter
Research fee Waived for the first half-hour; $53 per hour thereafter
Materials At cost, plus California sales tax
Non-UC Users
Per-page charge $6 per scan, plus production and research fee
Production fee: original scan $27 per image in-house
Production fee: duplicate scan $16 per image
Research fee $72 per hour

In-House Photography by User

In some cases and by prior approval, arrangements are made to permit photography of special collections materials in-house by the user or a hired photographer. In such cases, the fees below apply. Please note that digital photography by users in the reading room is not permitted.
