Department of Special Collections, Young Research Library
- The department's collections focus on the humanities and social sciences, supported by the circulating holdings of the Young Research Library. This includes over 140 collections in the entertainment arts, most described in Linda Harris Mehr's Motion Pictures, Television, and Radio: A Union Catalogue of Manuscript and Special Collections in the Western United States (Boston: G. K. Hall, 1977). The department also has collections in the other arts and in architecture and landscape architecture. They document developments in each field, contributions made by southern Californians to those developments, and the connection of the arts with the growth of the region.
Special Collections Division of the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library
- Established in 1964, the collection now contains close to 28,000 rare books. A 23,000 volume secondary support collection provides in-depth interpretation for the primary materials as does the extensive history of the health science/history of biology journal collection. A large reference section provides information about the history of the sciences and about the history of the book. In addition to the rare books, the Division collects and curates manuscripts, prints and portraits, and museum objects.
The William Andrews Clark Memorial Library
- The Clark Library, built by William Andrews Clark, Jr., houses a rare books and manuscripts collection, with particular strengths in English literature and history (1641-1800), Oscar Wilde, and fine printing. It stands thirteen miles off campus (about a half-hour drive), in the West Adams District of Los Angeles north of USC. It is administered by UCLA's Center for Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Studies.
