Summary of Instructional Activities

The Library has traditionally collected statistics that provide numerical data on the number of instruction single sessions conducted and the number of students and faculty reached. Following the launch of the Information Literacy Initiative in 2002, managers realized the need for additional data in order to provide insight into the depth and breadth of its instructional reach campuswide, which could be used to strategically and programmatically inform information literacy activities.

New data collected includes faculty and group outreach contacts, instructional assessment activities, materials developed for in-person and virtual modes of instruction, development and preparation time spent preparing instructional opportunities, and classrooms utilized throughout campus to teach or collaborate with departmental faculty.

When the Summary of Instructional Activities database is well populated with data, managers expect it to provide useful information about potential intra- and inter-campus partnerships and gaps and saturation points in reaching various groups of students and thus to guide decisions about Information Literacy Program planning. For more information about the database, contact Libbie Stephenson by email or by telephone at 310.825.0716.
