Information for AP High School StudentsThe services and collections of the College Library support the basic research needs of UCLA undergraduates. The library has approximately two hundred thousand books and seven hundred periodical subscriptions in a wide range of subjects. Save Time and Avoid FrustrationBefore visiting UCLA:
Getting a Free APHS Library Card (College Library only)Your high school librarian or AP coordinator needs to send an alphabetical list of all eligible students on school letterhead; it should not include Social Security numbers. The list should be sent to Roy Kartman, circulation supervisor, by email or by fax to 310.206.9312. After the list is sent, APHS students must bring a current photo ID such as a driver's license, school ID, or passport to the College Library circulation desk. Cards are issued for one year, from September to September. Cards are not available to students whose names do not appear on the list or who do not have a valid ID. AP students should plan to visit the College Library when the reference desk is open. Hours are shorter during intersessions, summer, and holidays. Check the hours Web site or call 310.825.1323 to verify reference desk hours. Checking Out BooksCollege Library books can be checked out for two weeks and are renewable online if there are no holds on them. Go to the UCLA Library Catalog, click on "My Account," and log in with your library card number to renew items. Return books through the book return at the circulation desk or through the outside book return on the west side of the Powell Library Building. Making PhotocopiesMagazines and journals cannot be checked out, but contents can be copied; a visitor BruinCard is required. BruinCard machines accept only $1, $5, $10, or $20 bills and do not provide change. Further AssistanceAsk for help at the circulation desk if you cannot find a book on the shelf or if you want information about fees for overdue or lost books.
