Requesting Items

Several different services are available to assist UCLA students, faculty, and staff with obtaining materials both at UCLA and at other institutions.

Materials Owned by UCLA

• Request a Search for an Item Missing from the Shelf: If an item is not on the shelf, users can place a request through an online form to have a search conducted. Users should check the shelf on two separate days before placing a search request in case the item has been in use and is in the process of being reshelved.
  
• Request an Item from the Southern Regional Library Facility (SRLF): The SRLF houses low-use materials, archives, manuscripts, and fragile items in need of special handling. UCLA students, faculty, and staff can request an item from the SRLF through the Request an Item button in the UCLA Library Catalog and have it delivered to any campus library.
  
• Request Books and Documents from UCLA Libraries: The UCLA Library offers both UCLA and non-UCLA users fee-based services for obtaining materials available in campus libraries.
  

Materials Not Owned by UCLA

• Request an Item from Another UC Campus:  Requests for materials owned by another UC library but not by a UCLA library can be submitted online from the Melvyl Catalog and UC-licensed databases through UC Request. This service is restricted to current UCLA students, faculty, and staff. Note: Users will need to provide their ten-digit library account number, which is the nine digits from the face of their BruinCard plus the tenth digit on the back of the card, near the right side.
  
• Request Books and Documents from Other Libraries: The interlibrary loan service enables current UCLA students, faculty, and staff to borrow materials not available at UCLA libraries from other libraries, both in this country and abroad.
