Interim Head of College Library
Alice Kawakami has been appointed as interim head of the College Library, where she has been assistant head since January 2002. She will manage all College Library services and operations, including reference, information literacy, collection development, circulation and reserves, and public programming. Kawakami has been at UCLA since July 1999 and earned the 2002 Librarian of the Year Award from the Librarians Association of the University of California, Los Angeles, for spearheading the Library’s implementation of its online reference service.

New Rare Books Librarian
Cristina Favretto is the new rare books librarian in the Charles E. Young Research Library Department of Special Collections. Favretto comes to UCLA from San Diego State University, where she was head of Special Collections; prior to that, she was director of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture at Duke University Libraries. She earned a BA in English literature from the State University of New York, Albany, and an MLS from the University of Pittsburgh.

New Performing Arts Special Collections Librarian
Peggy Alexander has accepted the newly created position of performing arts special collections librarian, in which she will work with the special collections of both the Arts and Music libraries. Alexander comes to UCLA from the Louis Armstrong House and Archives, where she has been curator since 2000. She has a BA in music performance from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, where she also earned an MLS.

New Visual Arts Librarian
Robert Gore has been named as visual arts librarian in the Arts Library, where he manages collections and services related to architecture, art, and design. Gore most recently worked at Kwantlen University College in Vancouver, where he was liaison for fine arts, interdisciplinary design, and graphic design. Gore has bachelor's degrees in English and Canadian literature and in photography and earned his master's degree in library science from the University of British Columbia.
