Broidy Wins Career Achievement Award

Ellen Broidy, head of Collections, Research, and Instructional Services in the Charles E. Young Research Library, has won the 2005 Career Achievement Award presented by the Association of College and Research Libraries' Women's Studies Section. The award honors significant, long-standing contributions to women's studies in the field of librarianship over the course of a career.

In particular, the award announcement praised Broidy's publications and presentations and her teaching, both bibliographic

instruction and for-credit courses. She is a founding member of the Women's Studies section and has been an active participant in its activities. A cash prize of $1,000 and a plaque will be presented to Broidy during the 2005 American Library Association annual conference in Chicago in June.

McGarry Earns Margaret Mann Citation Recipient

Dorothy McGarry, retired head of cataloging in the Science and Engineering Library, will receive the 2005 Margaret Mann Citation, presented by the Cataloging and Classification Section of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services of the American Library Association.

The award recognizes McGarry's outstanding professional association work at the regional, national, and international level and her participation in the development and revision of international cataloging standards.

This award is the highest honor in the cataloging field. It includes a $2,000 scholarship donated in her honor to the library school of her choice.
