Staff NewsTerry Ryan to RetireTerry Ryan, associate university librarian for the UCLA Electronic Library, has announced her retirement as of the end of June. Since coming to UCLA in 1985, she has overseen the transition from a locally developed mainframe catalog system with shared terminals to a rich suite of integrated applications and services delivered through a networked environment with desktop PCs. As one of the leaders of the campus InfoUCLA project in the early 1990s, Ryan helped design UCLA's first Web page and introduce Web technology to the campus. In her engagement in UCLA's Common Collaboration and Learning Environment, she has helped craft a new model for collaborative planning, design, and management of shared academic systems. She has also had great impact on systemwide IT planning as a member of the bibliographic services task force and as the chair of the UC-OCLC pilot implementation team (see article). New Biomedical Library Associate Director AppointedTania Bardyn has been appointed as associate director of public services in the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library. Prior to coming to UCLA, she was assistant director of affiliated libraries for the Ehrman Medical Library of the New York University Health Sciences Libraries. She earned her MLIS from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. Coordinator of Center for Primary Research and Training Plus NamedKathleene Konkle has joined the UCLA Library as coordinator for the Center for Primary Research and Training Plus in Performing Arts Special Collections. Her previous positions include XML consultant at the The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and project archivist for the New York Botanical Garden. She received her MLIS from Simmons College in Boston. Funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Center for Primary Research and Training Plus expands the existing program to encompass collections in the performing arts, expand into a year-long program, and involve faculty in the selection of collections and participants. |
