Staff NewsNew Arts LibrariansTwo new librarians have joined the staff of the Arts Library: Janine Henri as architecture, design, and digital services librarian and Diana L. King as film, television, and theater librarian. Henri comes to UCLA from the University of Texas at Austin, where she had been head of the Architecture and Planning Library since 1995; she pursued graduate studies in art history at UCLA and earned her MLIS from UC Berkeley. King was an associate librarian in the humanities and social sciences at UC Davis, where she has been responsible for collections in film and media studies, theater and dance, English literatures, and women and gender studies. She earned master’s degrees at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in English and in library science, with an emphasis on film and media studies in both programs. New Social Sciences LibrariansJennifer Osorio and Joseph Yue have joined the Charles E. Young Research Library’s Collections, Research, and Instructional Services. Osorio is the subject specialist for education and information studies. She is currently completing her MA in Latin American studies at UCLA; she also also earned her MLS at UCLA, during which she served an internship in the Research Library. Yue is the subject specialist for East Asian languages and cultures (non-vernacular), global studies, international government information, political science, and social welfare. He comes to UCLA from the University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries, where he provided reference and instructional services, served as liaison to social sciences programs, and managed humanities and social science reference collections. He earned his MLIS from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. 2007 Librarian of the YearMarsha Kmec, director of library services at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, has been named 2007 Librarian of the Year by the Librarians Association of the University of California, Los Angeles (LAUC). The award recognized in particular her innovation and leadership in developing and implementing a video network in the medical center’s emergency room waiting area that continuously broadcasts health education videos in English and Spanish. LAUC is the University of California’s primary organization for professional librarian and governance affairs. |
